Art Museum of Skagen
In connection to the extension and rebuild of Art Museum of Skagen, LYTT Architecture was responsible for the appurtenant outdoor spaces including the front area, museum gardens, sculpture gardens and parking area.
The extension’s interplay with Ulrik Plesner’s old museum building from 1928 and the characteristic street spaces demands special attention in the design of the new outdoor spaces. With respect for the existing place and the historical context, we have worked with place characteristic planting in the outdoor areas that elegantly links to the context and the history as well as creates a transition between new and old. The new buildings and outdoor areas supports the cultural value and identity of the museum.
We worked with various atmospheres and spatialities in the outward-facing urban areas and in the inward-facing more intimate garden spaces. The front area opens up, invites people in and becomes a part of the urban space. A number of foundations has supported the projects: A. P. Møller and Wife Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller’s Foundation, Queen Margrethe’s and Prince Henrik’s Foundation, The Obelske Family Foundation and others. The extended and completely renovated Art Museum of Skagen was inaguarated by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe in February 2016.
